Even if I'm unlikely to go back through and replay Ultima or Shining in the Darkness, it would have just been cool to look back on. Especially with my kids - my son in particular - who game a lot. "Back in my day, we had to map uphill in the snow both ways... no fancy auto-mapping you can reference when you hit start" - and just have him look at me like I've lost my mind. :)Chalgyrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10879608925209948366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1560336654412769768.post-85833402073368431882013-02-19T08:30:37.872+00:002013-02-19T08:30:37.872+00:00I know what you mean! I'm actually glad I kept them as I wouldn't have the time or patience to do them all again. They certainly made going back to Ultima IV and Dungeon Master a lot less painful.Wingnuthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07859158206963441813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1560336654412769768.post-27836537091639969252013-02-18T14:54:27.924+00:002013-02-18T14:54:27.924+00:00My only experience with Ultima was the Exodus and ...My only experience with Ultima was the Exodus and Avatar games that came out on the NES -= I didn't have a computer at the time. I laughed though, when I saw the image of graph paper maps. Wizardry, Ultima Exodus and Shining in the Darkness are all examples of games that had me spending LOTS of time with graph paper...Chalgyrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10879608925209948366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1560336654412769768.post-77626130970421964772013-02-18T13:00:38.037+00:002013-02-18T13:00:38.037+00:00Hi BacklogKiller and thanks for the comment. It will be interesting to see what Richard Garriott can come up with in his 'Ultimate RPG' project. I would love to see an 'Ultima' on a modern system.Wingnuthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07859158206963441813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1560336654412769768.post-2637872584173900832013-02-17T13:19:04.495+00:002013-02-17T13:19:04.495+00:00I just completed Ultima 4 a few months ago and enj...I just completed Ultima 4 a few months ago and enjoyed it immensely. It's a very 'old school' type game, but stands up very well. It's great to see how original ideas have transformed into more advanced games or even inspired mechanics and systems in recent products. It's moral system is still more complex than most games I've played that claim to have "consequences for your actions".BacklogKillerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00638617207043621777noreply@blogger.com
